I've re-watched the last 5 minutes of this video a few times because I love the words and wanted to capture them as close as I could. Don't get caught up in the technology, social platforms or temporary gadgets. When thinking about Transmedia you need to set up a universal framework for the story that connects emotionally and delights us.

Story rules and using the audience as characters goes a long way. This is what people share with other people, the experiences that they felt themselves.

Power to the Pixel is a Transmedia conference that was held in London last week (I wish I could have been there). Our very own Mel Exon and Saneel Radia were part of the conference but I was also excited to hear that Mike Monello from Campfire would be one of the speakers. 

Here is his presentation. I'm happy that he used the Greek Theater example and love the Coney Island story that he tells about creating a platform for people to watch other people on the rides.

Embrace Exclusivity for Retail - Starbucks Digital Network

I love this article from PaidContent.org which describes the new Starbucks Digital Network. By now most of you should know that Starbucks has free WiFi and now they have a website that can only be accessed when you are at the coffee shop. The site looks like this:

Embracing exclusivity is very important for brands, yet it seems to be a difficult philosophy to sell into client organizations. An exclusive website gives people another reason to stay and hang out at Starbucks, hopefully purchase another drink or a breakfast sandwich.

PaidContent.org explains the exclusivity like this:

Outside the stores, http://starbucks.yahoo.com brings up an “error” page that describes the content and urges: “So drop by your local store and log on for interesting and important content you can’t find anywhere else. Absolutely free!”

 

Augmented Reality in Retail [VIDEO]

It is hard for CPG brands to create a brand experience in a retail environment but this Spanish brand did a pretty good job using Augmented Reality. I found this video on Total Immersion. 

 

Turning negative WOM around [STUDY]

Ian Greenleigh wrote a great post on BazaarBrief about brands turning negative WOM around. I wanted to share some of the stats that were in that post here:

Companies already know that customers will share their bad experiences with others (as does 79% of the population). But do they know why they do it?

85% wanted to warn others about the pitfalls of doing business with that company

66% wanted to discourage others from buying form that company

55% wanted to vent anger or disappointment

24% wanted to see if the company would take action to resolve their issue

If you ignore negative comments, and may lose that customer for good. When posting something critical to Facebook or Twitter, 58% of consumers want you to respond. Don’t wait to do it, either:

42% expect a response within a day

39% within a week

7% within an hour

2% within a minute

What they expect, however, is far from what they receive. Just 22% heard back from the brand after they voiced their frustrations via social media.
